Selling · The way out

The bit nobody else explains.

Most casks settle in two weeks. Most gold sells in five days. Three routes out of a cask, two out of gold; we’ve used all five this year. Selling fee is 2%, flat, shown up front, and that’s the whole list.

The principle

Five exit routes. We’ve used all of them this year.

Three ways to sell a cask. Two ways to sell gold. We’ve used all five this year, and the timelines and fees are listed below.

Whichever route you pick, we handle the paperwork. Selling fee is 2% of the sale price, shown up front, and there isn’t a second one.

Selling a whisky cask

Three routes, all walked through with you.

Most customers take the buyback (cash in fourteen days, our standing offer). The other two routes often pay more and take longer. Whichever you pick, we handle the paperwork and the warehouse delivery order.

1
Route one
Sell back to us.

We make a buyback offer based on the current market for casks of that distillery and that age. Money usually arrives within fourteen days. The simplest route, and most customers take it.

2
Route two
Sell to a private buyer or independent bottler.

We have a vetted list of private buyers and independent bottlers. We introduce you, agree the price, handle the legal paperwork. Slower than the buyback (typically four to eight weeks) but often achieves a higher price, especially for older or rarer casks.

3
Route three
Bottle it yourself.

Your cask, your bottling run. We organise an independent bottler to do the work, you pick the label and strength. At the end you own roughly 250 to 700 bottles of single malt, with a label of your choosing. You can keep them, give them away, or sell them. Once bottled and duty-paid, the bottles can leave Scotland and be delivered to you.

Selling UK gold

Two routes, both straightforward.

Sovereigns and Britannias are recognised globally. There is always a buyer at a reasonable price.

1
Route one
Sell back to us at spot.

We buy back at the live LBMA spot price, less a small dealer spread. Money usually arrives within three to five working days. The simplest route, and most customers take it.

2
Route two
Sell privately, or to another reputable dealer.

Sovereigns and Britannias are recognised globally. Any reputable dealer will quote you. We can ship them to a third party on your instruction, or release them to you so you can handle the sale yourself. Coins from the vault arrive at the new buyer (or to you) by insured signed-for courier.
