About · Oak & Mason

Why we built this.

Two real things, made as easy as opening an ISA. We started Oak & Mason because the alternative-asset space was full of jargon, hidden fees and uncomfortable sales. We thought: this could be done plainly.

Why we exist

Cash erodes. Shares wobble. Some people want a third lane.

There is a particular UK saver who has cash in an ISA, sees the interest barely keeping up with inflation, knows they should diversify, and does not want to pile more into an already volatile stock market. They have heard of whisky casks and gold but every site they look at is either dripping with auction-house grandeur or aggressively pitching get-rich-quick stories.

Oak & Mason is for that person.

We sell two physical, tax-friendly assets. Rare Scotch whisky casks, and investment-grade UK gold coins. Both are real. Both are in your name on third-party paperwork. Both come with fees we tell you about up front. We do not say they are a guaranteed return. We say: here is what you are buying, here is what it costs, here is how to sell it. You decide for yourself.

What we believe

Three things, plainly held.

1 Plain English

No jargon, no scrolling small print

We write the way we talk. If a sentence has a Latin phrase, an acronym we have not explained, or a number with no context, we rewrite it.

2 Yours, on someone else’s paperwork

Real assets, in your name

Cask in your name on the warehouse register. Coins on the LBMA-approved vault inventory. None of it sits on our balance sheet.

3 Fees up front

Every fee in writing

The asset price, the spread, the storage, the dealing fee, the exit. All shown in writing before you commit. We earn from a transparent spread, every line itemised.

What we’ve built

Where the casks and coins come from, where they’re stored, and what we do for you.

1 Sourcing

Working distilleries you have heard of

Highland and Speyside distilleries, with verifiable fill dates and ages. For gold, only Royal Mint Sovereigns and Britannias, new or second-hand of guaranteed purity.

2 Storage

HMRC-bonded warehouse and an LBMA London vault

Every cask is in a Scottish bonded warehouse, the same kind the distilleries themselves use. Every coin is allocated to you by name in an LBMA-approved London vault.

3 Service

Account, statements, exits

One account that looks like online banking. Clean statements twice a year. When you want to sell, you message us and we handle the paperwork. No phone tag.

Honest answer

How we work, plainly stated.

We sell physical assets, which sit outside the FCA’s remit and are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Our job is to help you own a thing and sell it again, plainly: sourcing, paperwork, storage, exit. Personal financial advice, returns guarantees, and the “wealth manager” label belong with an independent adviser, and we will say so when you ask.

No FCA
Physical assets, not financial products
Whisky in cask and Royal Mint coins are physical things you own. Outside the FCA’s remit, by design.
No advice
We help you own and sell, not decide
If you want personal advice, see an independent financial adviser. We are happy to wait while you do.

Asset values can go down as well as up. Past values are not a guide to future values.

Take a proper look first

Have a proper look
before you decide.

Open an account in about ten minutes, see the available casks and today’s coin prices, buy when you’re ready. If you want to talk to a real human first, we’re happy to do that. A real person, a proper conversation.
